Our Fee Policies

Currently, we operate a strictly fee-for-service practice. We are not on any insurance panels, and we do not directly bill insurance companies for our services. All fees are due at the time of service.

Certain PPO insurance plans may reimburse you for part (or all) of the fees paid to out-of-network providers. Before starting therapy, you may wish to contact your insurance company to find out about the procedure for getting reimbursed for out-of-network costs.  We provide the necessary documentation to help you get reimbursements from your insurance company, if this is a benefit that is provided to you.

While many people prefer to take advantage of their insurance benefits when seeking therapy, there are distinct advantages to choosing to pay out-of-pocket.

  • Insurance companies generally require a psychiatric diagnosis to be made before paying out for mental health services. This may lead to unnecessary labeling, which then becomes part of your insurance record. Paying for therapy yourself allows you to maintain confidentiality about your struggles and may reduce the likelihood of being given a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes.

  • Insurance companies may impose arbitrary limits on the amount of services you receive. For some individuals, this is not a problem, but for other individuals who prefer more consistent or more long-term therapy, this may be a significant limiting factor.

  • Using your insurance policy to pay for therapy may restrict your choice in who you are able to see for therapy, depending on which providers participate in your specific plan. Paying out-of-pocket allows you more flexibility in choosing the therapist you work with best.

Rates

Our current rates for services vary by provider

  • $160-$225 per 45-50 minute individual or family session. Additional time is prorated at your therapist’s hourly rate. Additional services may include completing forms, writing letters, consulting with other treatment providers or engaging in phone calls/emails outside of regular session times.

  • $160-$225 per hour for home-based therapy or treatment occurring in other community locations. Charges for this service include travel time to and from our office space to the off-site location and are prorated at your therapist’s hourly rate.

  • $160-$225 per hour for attendance at IEP or other school meetings, including travel time if the therapist attends in person.

Although we do not provide custody evaluations or expert witness testimony, the following charges do apply if your therapist’s participation in court-ordered proceedings becomes necessary:

  • $300/hour for therapy services that are either directly court-ordered or are entered into as part of an ongoing lawsuit (including, but not limited to, lawsuits for personal injury, workman's compensation, wrongful termination, medical malpractice, etc.), including time required to complete documentation for court. All payments are due at the time of service and we do NOT work on a contingency basis.

  • $450/hour for attendance at or participation in court proceedings, including preparation and travel time.  A minimum retainer of $2000 is required to be paid no later than 1 week prior to the scheduled court date and is non-refundable.

We believe in transparency with our fees and will discuss specifics of the fee agreement with you prior to scheduling your appointment. We also provide good faith estimates upon request or when scheduling your appointment with us in accordance with the No Surprises Act (Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act).

Good Faith Estimates

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

• You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

• Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

Payments

We require that all current clients maintain a valid credit card on file with us, and we generally use the card on file for payments unless alternate arrangements are made in advance. While we have accepted cash and personal checks for payment in the past, due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, all payments currently are required to be made via credit card.

Payments are due at the time service is rendered unless alternate arrangements are made in advance. Clients who have an outstanding balance with our office will not be allowed to schedule additional appointments until their account is made current.

Cancellation Policy

A 24-hour notice is required for all appointment cancellations. Cancellations made during the 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time will be billed at the regular hourly rate.
